The production of a Kholuy casket is long, labour-intensive process. Its secrets are kept from the moment of occurrence of a craft and are known only to our workmen.

Multilayered tubes are pressed from a qualitative wooden cardboard. Their form and size are various. These tubes are called “naviv”. They are saturated with the flax oil and then these tubes are drying in special furnaces while oil will become hard.

A workman makes semi finished items from naviv. Then he will need to prime it.
|

|
Caskets are primed with the mixture of flax oil, soot and clay.
|
|
|
The dried up prime is grinded and then workmen color the caskets with red and black varnish. Then painters can work with them.

The recipe of making paints came to us from time immemorial. Icon painters of ancient Russ worked with such kind of paints. The mineral powder is pounded with an egg yolk, water and vinegar.
The correct preparation of the paints is the basic part of the painter.

The final stage of making a casket is polishing. The workman polishes the varnish till the small scratches disappear. The qualitative polishing emphasizes art advantages of the work, reveals its brightness and depth.
